What are polynucleotides?
Polynucleotides (PN) are purified fragments of DNA, usually sourced from salmon or trout, prepared as a sterile injectable gel. They are often grouped with skin boosters. At Vitalumina, every treatment is planned and performed by Dr Gregorio De Carvalho.
How they work. Placed in the skin with fine injections, polynucleotides are designed to support the skin’s own repair processes, hydration and elasticity. They do not add volume or change your features, so any change is subtle and develops over several weeks.
What the evidence says. Early clinical studies report improvements in skin quality, but the research is still limited and results vary between patients. Dr Gregorio will explain what is realistic for your skin before you decide.
The polynucleotide products we use
LUMI EYES & NUCLEOFILL
Lighter formulations for the thin, delicate skin under the eyes, often chosen for dark circles, crepey texture and fine lines.
NEWEST
Polynucleotides combined with hyaluronic acid, used on the face and neck for dull, dehydrated or tired-looking skin.
PLENHYAGE XL
A higher-concentration polynucleotide gel for more weathered skin, and as part of a combined plan for acne scarring.
All are CE-marked medical devices, and the product is chosen for the area and your skin at consultation. We also offer Rejuran, a well-known polynucleotide brand. If hydration is the main goal, Profhilo and skin boosters may suit you better; for deeper firmness, collagen stimulation.

Polynucleotides for under-eyes in London
The skin under the eyes is thin and shows tiredness early: dark circles, crepey texture and fine lines. Polynucleotide under-eye treatment uses lighter formulations, such as Lumi Eyes or Nucleofill Eyes, placed with fine injections to support skin quality without adding volume.
It is often considered when the concern is skin quality rather than hollowness. Where volume loss is the main issue, Dr Gregorio will explain other options honestly at your consultation.

Polynucleotide Treatment Areas
Polynucleotides treat skin quality rather than structure. These are the areas most often discussed at consultation.
Under-Eyes
Polynucleotide under-eye treatment is the most requested: for dark circles, crepey skin and fine lines around the eyes.
Face
Dull, dehydrated or tired-looking skin, fine lines and uneven texture across the face.
Neck & Décolletage
Crepey skin and horizontal neck lines on the neck and décolletage, areas that are often overlooked.
Acne Scarring
Shallow acne scarring, as part of a combined plan depending on the type of scar.
Skin Rejuvenation
Polynucleotide skin rejuvenation for early signs of ageing, where the aim is healthier-looking skin rather than a different look.
Not a Filler
Polynucleotides do not add volume or change your features. Where volume or structure is the concern, Dr Gregorio will discuss other options such as dermal fillers or collagen stimulation.
Your Treatment Journey
From consultation to maintenance, every step is with the same doctor. Most people return to normal activities the same day.
Week 0 free consultation and first session · Weeks 3–8 sessions 2 and 3; some patients notice smoother, brighter-looking skin from around 3 weeks · After the course changes may continue to develop; a maintenance session every 6–9 months may be recommended.
Free Consultation
Dr Gregorio reviews your concerns, medical history and skin, explains realistic outcomes and confirms whether polynucleotides are suitable. There is no obligation to go ahead.
Treatment Sessions
Numbing cream is applied, then the product is placed with fine injections. Each session takes 30–45 minutes. A typical course is 3 sessions, 3–4 weeks apart.
Results & Maintenance
Any changes build gradually, sometimes from around 3 weeks after the first session, and may continue through the course. A maintenance session every 6–9 months may be recommended. Results vary.
Safety, Suitability and Aftercare
Polynucleotides are generally well tolerated when given by a trained medical professional. As with any injectable treatment there are risks, and these are discussed at your consultation.
Side Effects
Redness, swelling, tenderness and small bumps at the injection points are common and usually settle within 24–48 hours. Bruising can occur. Infection and allergic reactions are rare.
Not Suitable If
You are pregnant or breastfeeding, have a fish or polynucleotide allergy, or have active infection or inflammation in the area. Some medical conditions and medicines need review first.
Aftercare
Avoid make-up for 12 hours, and strenuous exercise, saunas and alcohol for 24 hours. Do not massage the area, and use daily SPF. Contact the clinic if anything concerns you.

Polynucleotide treatment in London: frequently asked questions
How much does polynucleotide treatment cost in London?
At Vitalumina, polynucleotide treatment is from £250 per session for the under-eyes, £295 for the face and neck, and £325 for advanced skin renewal with Plenhyage XL. A course of 3 sessions is £675, £795 or £875 respectively. Your consultation is free, and the final price is confirmed at consultation, based on the product, treatment area and individual treatment plan.
How many sessions will I need?
Most people have a course of 3 sessions, 3–4 weeks apart; some benefit from a fourth. A maintenance session every 6–9 months is often recommended.
When will I see results?
Changes are gradual. Some patients notice brighter, smoother-looking skin from around 3 weeks after the first session, with further change through the course. Results vary, and some people see little difference.
How long do polynucleotide results last?
Manufacturers suggest results typically last around 6–9 months after a full course, depending on your skin, age and lifestyle. Maintenance sessions can help to keep them.
Do polynucleotide injections hurt?
Numbing cream is applied first. Most patients describe mild, brief discomfort during the injections.
What are the side effects?
Redness, swelling and small bumps at the injection points are common and usually settle within 24–48 hours. Bruising can occur. Serious complications are rare and are discussed at your consultation.
Who should not have polynucleotides?
They are not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with a known fish or polynucleotide allergy, or with active infection or inflammation in the area. Dr Gregorio checks your medical history before any treatment.
Polynucleotides or Profhilo: which is better?
Both work on skin quality. Profhilo is hyaluronic acid and mainly hydrates; polynucleotides are designed to support skin repair and are often chosen for the under-eyes. Some patients benefit from both, and Dr Gregorio will advise at consultation.
Where is the clinic?
Vitalumina is at 237 Kensington High Street, London W8 6SA, near High Street Kensington station. Appointments are by arrangement; message us on WhatsApp to check availability.
Are polynucleotides worth it?
For many people looking for subtle, natural-looking improvement in skin quality, especially around the eyes and neck, polynucleotides can be a good option. The evidence is encouraging but still limited, results vary, and a course is usually needed. Dr Gregorio will tell you honestly at your free consultation whether they are likely to help you, or whether another option would suit you better.
Are polynucleotides the same as fillers?
No. Fillers add volume to restore shape or structure. Polynucleotides do not add volume; they are designed to support skin quality, hydration and elasticity, so the change is gradual and subtle.
Are polynucleotides better than anti-wrinkle injections?
They do different jobs. Anti-wrinkle injections relax the muscles that cause expression lines, while polynucleotides work on the quality of the skin itself. Some patients benefit from both; Dr Gregorio will recommend what suits your concerns at consultation.
