Filler Dissolving London

Unwanted filler does not have to be permanent. Hyaluronidase safely and completely dissolves hyaluronic acid filler — restoring your natural appearance or preparing the area for a fresh, correctly placed treatment.

Whether it is your own previous treatment or work done elsewhere, Dr Gregorio De Carvalho can help.

What is filler dissolving?

Filler dissolving uses an enzyme called hyaluronidase to break down hyaluronic acid — the active ingredient in the vast majority of dermal fillers. When injected into a filled area, hyaluronidase rapidly dissolves the HA chains, causing the filler to break down and be absorbed naturally by the body.

The result is visible within 24–72 hours and, in most cases, complete — restoring the area to its pre-treatment state or correcting specific problem areas within a treated zone.

Bad filler correction — when dissolving is the right choice

Not all filler results require complete dissolution. Sometimes a targeted, partial dissolve — removing product from a specific area while leaving the rest — is more appropriate than full removal. In others, complete dissolution is the only way to reset and start fresh. Dr Gregorio assesses each case individually during consultation to determine the most appropriate approach.

If you are unhappy with filler placed by another provider, the first step is always a thorough assessment — understanding what product was used, where it was placed and what the correct approach is before any dissolving is performed.

Reasons to dissolve filler — when is it the right choice?

Every reason for dissolving is valid. There is no wrong reason to want filler removed. These are the most common situations Dr Gregorio addresses.

Vascular Occlusion

01
The most serious complication of filler — where product obstructs a blood vessel. Hyaluronidase must be administered immediately as an emergency medical procedure. This is the most critical use of filler dissolving and requires a doctor to manage.

Overfilling

02
Too much product was placed — creating an unnatural, overfilled appearance. Common in lips (duck lip effect), cheeks (pillow face) or tear troughs (festoons). Partial or full dissolution restores natural proportions.

Filler Migration

03
Filler has moved from its original placement site, blurring the lip border, creating lumps above the lip or appearing in unintended areas. Dissolving removes the migrated product precisely without affecting correctly placed filler.

Lumps & Nodules

04
Visible or palpable lumps beneath the skin caused by poor injection technique, inflammatory response or incorrect product selection. Hyaluronidase dissolves the product causing the irregularity.

Asymmetry

05
The result is uneven — one side more filled than the other, or the result is disproportionate to the patient’s features. Targeted partial dissolving corrects the asymmetry before new filler is placed correctly.

Change of Mind

06
Your aesthetic preferences have changed, or the result — while technically correct — is no longer what you want. One of the key advantages of hyaluronic acid filler is that it can be fully reversed at any time.

How does filler dissolving work? The hyaluronidase mechanism.

Hyaluronidase is an enzyme — not a solvent or chemical agent. It works by mimicking a natural process already present in your body.
01

Filler Evaluation

Dr Gregorio assesses the type, volume, depth and location of filler present. Understanding what product is there, where exactly it sits and what the target outcome is determines the correct hyaluronidase dose and placement. This step is critical — it requires medical expertise, not just an injection.
02

Hyaluronidase Delivered

Hyaluronidase is injected precisely into the filler deposit. The enzyme immediately begins cleaving the β-1,4 glycosidic bonds in the hyaluronic acid polymer chains — breaking them into smaller fragments that the body’s lymphatic system can process and reduce.
03

Filler Broken Down

The fragmented HA is absorbed over 24–72 hours. The area may swell immediately post-injection — this is the enzyme working, not a complication. A review at 2 weeks confirms complete dissolution and determines whether a further session or new filler placement is appropriate.

Frequently asked questions about filler dissolving in London.

Filler dissolving uses hyaluronidase — an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid, the main ingredient in most dermal fillers. When injected into the filled area, hyaluronidase cleaves the HA polymer chains into smaller fragments that the body’s lymphatic system naturally processes and may reduce. Results are visible within 24–72 hours.
Hyaluronidase begins working immediately on injection. The treated area will swell immediately after treatment — this is the enzyme at work, not a complication. Visible results are typically apparent within 24–48 hours as the filler breaks down, with full dissolution complete within 72 hours. The final result becomes clear once injection-related swelling has fully resolved, usually within 3–5 days.
Hyaluronidase only dissolves hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers — including most mainstream HA filler brands. It does not work on non-HA fillers such as calcium-based fillers, poly-L-lactic acid biostimulators or permanent fillers. Dr Gregorio will assess the filler type during your consultation before any treatment is performed.
Filler dissolving involves injections into the treated area, which can cause mild discomfort — particularly in sensitive areas like the lips. Topical anaesthetic cream is applied beforehand. The immediate sensation of the enzyme reacting with the filler can cause a brief burning feeling, which subsides quickly. Most patients find it comparable to the original filler treatment.
We recommend a minimum of 2 weeks between dissolving and any new filler placement. This allows swelling to fully resolve, natural tissue to settle and provides an accurate baseline for planning the new treatment. Placing new filler too soon risks residual hyaluronidase breaking down the freshly injected product. Dr Gregorio will review the area at 2 weeks before any re-treatment is planned.
Yes. Hyaluronidase is an enzyme with a long and well-established medical history — used in ophthalmology, anaesthesia and oncology for decades. When used for filler dissolving by an experienced doctor, it has an excellent safety profile. The key safety consideration is accurate assessment of what product is present and precise injection placement — both requiring medical knowledge and experience.
